Gated Community

We have a neighborhood organization making inquiry to the City about becoming a gated community. This is not a new development. It is a long established subdivision with roads and infrastructure maintained by the City. Does anyone have any experience with such a request?

Years ago I had a similar situation with a small subdivision with one way in and out.  Here were the requirements I recall.  The streets were vacated through district court; easements were retained; a gate was installed with fire and police having emergency gate keys; a restrictive covenant was entered into requiring each property owner to participate in street maintenance.
