IMLA Response to Coronavirus - subject matter experts needed

IMLA is monitoring the coronavirus outbreak and CDC guidance, particularly after a top CDC official announced yesterday "[i]t's not so much a question of if this will happen anymore, but rather more a question of exactly when this will happen and how many people in this country will have severe illness."

Because a lot of the response will fall to state and local officials, we wanted to organize a teleconference for our members to prepare for a potential outbreak and discuss possible legal issues.  For example, local governments should consider how they will implement quarantine if it becomes necessary, and whether you have a plan in place to hold due process hearings in a manner that would prevent further spread of the virus.  Other issues include ensuring adequate response by emergency personnel, employment issues and a host of other issues.

We will announce the date of the teleconference soon and the plan will be for this to be informal and a way for members to share information with each other.  In the meantime, if you have subject matter expertise in this area or know someone who would be a good resource for our members and would be willing to participate in this call, please contact me at akellar@imla.orgmailto:akellar@imla.org.

Finally, Chuck Thompson, our executive director, wrote a paper on pandemic preparedness a number of years ago that we would be happy to share with IMLA members who are interested.  I am also providing some resources from the CDC that you may find helpful.  Note that not all of the items on here will be relevant for the attorneys, but many are.
