Dear IMLA Immigration Working Group:

A couple of other important developments to flag.

The first link is to a press release from the House committee on oversight announcing an investigation into the policies of "sanctuary jurisdictions."  The link includes links to letters sent to Boston, Chicago, Denver, and New York City requesting documents and communications from those cities related to their so-called sanctuary policies.  The committee is also inviting the Mayors to testify before a hearing scheduled for 2/11 at 10 am eastern. https://oversight.house.gov/release/chairman-comer-launches-investigation-into-sanctuary-cities-invites-mayors-to-testify/https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__oversight.house.gov_release_chairman-2Dcomer-2Dlaunches-2Dinvestigation-2Dinto-2Dsanctuary-2Dcities-2Dinvites-2Dmayors-2Dto-2Dtestify_&d=DwMFaQ&c=euGZstcaTDllvimEN8b7jXrwqOf-v5A_CdpgnVfiiMM&r=jblVzryv37xz6dGHTIBd0omyr7IZ_ghleJygNWPo2JE&m=s_j-T_rIcuvL_SFC_huF6o0YfnjhVhnSC2L2ogE-intgJoartN4_LxmqqPJLFTG1&s=LhZBP36aye7xX8h39Hy5kppxMq5uZveMhbM_yo3nxCM&e=

The second link is to a press release from Representative Nick LaLota (R-Suffolk County) which discussed reintroducing a bill entitled "No Bailouts for Sanctuary Cities Act."  https://lalota.house.gov/media/press-releases/lalota-reintroduces-bill-hold-sanctuary-cities-accountablehttps://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__lalota.house.gov_media_press-2Dreleases_lalota-2Dreintroduces-2Dbill-2Dhold-2Dsanctuary-2Dcities-2Daccountable&d=DwMFaQ&c=euGZstcaTDllvimEN8b7jXrwqOf-v5A_CdpgnVfiiMM&r=jblVzryv37xz6dGHTIBd0omyr7IZ_ghleJygNWPo2JE&m=s_j-T_rIcuvL_SFC_huF6o0YfnjhVhnSC2L2ogE-intgJoartN4_LxmqqPJLFTG1&s=JfLdcP_kqQhhX7L_2MQbl1ZG0SGIGZQoFbvmhtLHKCQ&e=.  This passed the house but stalled in the Senate last year and is being reintroduced now.  According to the background in the press release: " This legislation prohibits federal funding for any jurisdiction with sanctuary city policies to aid or address the migrant crisis. This includes funding for food, shelter, healthcare services, legal services, and transportation costs."  The link to the reintroduced bill is not showing the text yet, but here is the text from the 118th Congress which passed the house: https://www.congress.gov/bill/118th-congress/house-bill/5717.

I will keep you all posted of additional developments and appreciate people flagging this for me.  If I haven't seen something to the list that you believe is relevant, feel free to do so yourself or send it to me and I can send it for you.

Thanks,
Amanda
