After careful consideration and many consultations with medical professionals from the CDC, DHEC, and MUSC, the following is the CPD protocol for self-isolation related to the COVID-19 epidemic.  While the plan is designed to protect employees from being exposed and spreading infection, it is also very fluid and could change at any moment at the direction of medical professionals.

Below are three categories related to exposure or possible exposure to an employee:

Category 1:  For employees who are sick with symptoms of COVID-19, or who have a fever after taking their temperature:

  • DO NOT COME TO WORK

  • Contact your supervisor and Designated POC.  Designated POC will instruct you on how to apply for testing and ask you about any close contacts you have had while symptomatic.

  • If you do not qualify for testing, return to work once you are healthy.
If you test negative for COVID-19, return to work once you are healthy.

  • If you test positive for COVID-19, you must not return to work until you are medically cleared.
Category 2:  For employees who have been in close contact with persons who have either tested positive for COVID-19 or who are in the process of being tested for COVID-19:

  • Contact Designated POC for further instruction.  Designated POC will confer with medical personnel to make determinations of isolation on a case by case basis.

  • If the person you have been in close contact with tests positive for COVID-19, Designated POC will instruct you regarding potential isolation after conferring with medical personnel.

  • If the person you have been in close contact with tests negative for COVID-19 and you have been previously instructed to stay at home, you must return to work if you are healthy.

  • You must monitor yourself for potential development of COVID-19 symptoms.

  • If you develop symptoms of COVID-19, you must follow the protocol in Category 1.
Category 3:  For employees who have been in close contact with members of the public with COVID-19 symptoms, but who have no information on testing status of the individual (i.e. patrol).

  • Contact Designated POC for further instruction. Designated POC will confer with medical personnel to make determinations of isolation on a case by case basis.

  • You must monitor yourself for potential development of COVID-19 symptoms.

  • If you develop symptoms of COVID-19, you must follow the protocol in Category 1.

In sum, all sick employees should not come to work and should only return once healthy.  All employees who test positive for COVID-19 must stay home until medically cleared.  All other determinations of isolation will be made on a case by case basis in conjunction with medical personnel.

Please keep in mind that this is a fluid situation and we are constantly in contact with medical professionals so directives may change.

Do not hesitate to call Designated POC if you have questions at any time.  I can be reached at ###-###-####.
